Baked Toast

My all time, never fails me, breakfast. This has quickly become my new way to enjoy toast in the morning. Yeah you can just pop your bread in your toaster then top with your toppings but where’s the fun in that!?

Here’s the science behind baked toast. If you think about a pizza you pile all these toppings on then bake it in the oven. What happens to the pizza? All the flavors melt in the oven, combining everything perfectly together. So if that happens with pizza, why not do the same then with toast! I know not everyone has access to an oven, but if you have a toaster oven it’ll turn out just fine!

I usually stick with a sweet and savory combo. Typically mashed avocado for the savory, because let’s be real I can’t live a day without my avocado fix. For the sweet usually some nut butter base and some fruit on top. I like using frozen fruit because in the oven the fruit melts and the juices go everywhere making it taste like dessert not like breakfast.

So here is a step by step tutorial on how to make this delicious breakfast:

1. Preheat oven to 400 F

2. Grab your favorite bread. I like using sourdough, Daves Killer Bread, or Food For Life Baking Ezekiel Bread.

3. Now pick your toppings. For savory mash some avocado on top, or maybe some pesto. For sweet, start with a base of peanut butter or almond butter. Or whatever nut butter you prefer.

4. Once your bread has its base down decide what you want to put on it before going in the oven. Rather it’s bananas or berries for the sweet side, or mushrooms for the savory.

5. Place in oven on a parchment lined baking sheet, you can either lightly grease with some avocado oil or leave without oil.

6. Bake for 10 minutes. Once the timer goes off, switch to broil and cook for another 2-4 minutes. Make sure to check because sometimes it can burn too quickly!

7. Remove from oven and finish off your roast with your favorite seasonings.

8. For savory I usually go for Trader Joe’s everything but the bagel seasoning and some red pepper flakes for spice. For sweet is always throw some hemp seeds on there for protein and omega-3s. Sometimes some cacao nibs for that chocolate twist.

9. Put on your plate and enjoy!
